NFL Prop Bets
If you choose your bets carefully, certain NFL prop bets can be more profitable than straight bets. Online sportsbooks tend to pay more attention to straight up wagers because that’s where most of the betting action is. The benefit to you is that you can often find prop bets that have been overlooked by the sportsbooks and other handicappers.

Some NFL prop bets are obviously more profitable than others. For example, a wager on the outcome of the opening coin flip is all luck. You might get lucky and win some money, but it’s not an actual profitable bet over the long term. Here are some tips for finding good NFL props.

Profitable NFL Prop Bets
Some NFL props are naturally more profitable than others. Bets such as the coin-flip example mentioned above might be fun and all, but there’s nothing you can do to get an edge short of fixing the actual flip. Good luck with that!

Your best bet with NFL props is to find props that deal with team performance and individual player performance. For example, many props revolve around how many passing or rushing yards specific players will have in the game. These types of bets are open for all kinds of research.
Let’s say, for example, you want to place a bet on Michael Vick having more than 220 passing yards or fewer than 220 passing yards next week. This is just an example so I don’t have any advice for you on this one. But what I can tell you is that there is a real opportunity to research Michael Vick’s strengths and weaknesses and compare those to the pass defense of the team he’ll be facing off against.
You can also check up on injury reports of key players in your NFL prop bets. And I don’t mean just the player you’re betting on. I’m also talking about players that affect him. How are his linemen looking? How about people who make big plays and open gaps for him?
Injury / performance reports can also be used to analyze the other side. For example, if your pick is about to play against the Chiefs, you would absolutely have to check up on Brandon Flowers. The guy has been making big plays all season long.
The point is that if you do a little research, you can gain a major advantage over the competition. Sure, you won’t win every time, but if you practice and put in the work, you can realistically turn a profit over the course of a season.
In a lot of our minds, the phrase “NFL prop bets” conjures up memories of fun prop bets such as the coin flip, how many times the TV will cut to a close-up of the coach and so on. But remember there are just as many serious prop bets that can be researched, analyzed and bet upon for a profit.
